MODOT issues winter weather travel advisory for Joplin area

(From MODOT)

MoDOT/Southwest Winter Travel Advisory:
Wednesday through Thursday, March 4-5

MoDOT crews will be out in full force beginning late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as a winter storm moves into southwest Missouri. Crews will focus snow removal operations on major routes. As major roads become mostly clear, crews will move to lesser traveled roads. Crews will plow and apply snow removal chemicals on hills, curves and intersections, but lesser traveled roads will not cleared to dry pavement.

Road Clearing: At the beginning of the storm, MoDOT crews will concentrate their efforts in clearing major roadways including I-49, I-44, Route 60, Route 65 and Route 13 throughout the day on Wednesday. The work will continue until all major roads are in mostly clear condition.

When major roads have reached the mostly clear status, crews will move to lesser traveled roads. Crews will plow the roads and apply salt and abrasives on hills, curves and intersections. However, those roadways will NOT be cleared to dry pavement

Travel Conditions: Wednesday morning rush hour could prove to be challenging. The storm is predicted to arrive in the southwest Missouri region sometime early Wednesday morning and continue through the day.

Roads will remain covered to mostly covered until the winter storm moves out of the area. MoDOT crews will be out, but travel conditions will not improve until the winter storm moves out of the area.

Drivers will experience slick road conditions and should slow down and allow extra travel time. Also, drivers are urged to give plows room to work. Do not pass plows for the safety of both drivers and plow operators.
