Former Joplin Police Chief Lane Roberts, who was elected to the Joplin R-8 Board of Education Tuesday tells KSN that he will not serve. That had already been established before the election, but voters knowing that full well, chose to cast their ballots for Roberts to prevent Board President Anne Sharp from being elected to a sixth three-year term.
Voters also elected Jeff Koch to a three-year position and Jennifer Martucci to the one-year unexpired term created by the resignation last summer of Dawn Sticklen.
The board will choose someone to replace Roberts.
Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Roberts to serve as Director of Public Safety.

Who are the potential appointees for Roberts' spot?
How can the people prevent Anne from being appointed in the spot? It was very obvious that people do not want her in that spot!
KIMBROUGH
Kimbrough should stay one more year.
How can the people prevent Anne from being appointed in the spot?
Read the previous discussions on all this, but to summarize:
The process takes a while, there's nothing immediate about it.
When the new board meets without Roberts, it will have 3 incumbents who have been supporting Huff prior to the election and Huff's dirty politics last weekend, and incumbent Fort and new members Koch and Martucci in a 3 member anti-Huff faction.
So the best case for Sharp would be a 3-3 vote, where a majority is needed to select a new member. All that assumes none of the 3 pro-Huff incumbents can tell which way the wind is blowing now, and are willing to take further hits to their reputations by continuing to support him, or in the case of Sharp, to act clearly against "the will of the people" (is even Mike "Elections don't matter" Landis that tone deaf? If so, his current term ends in 1 year).
So we could easily see a 4-2 or better anti-Huff lineup, which would, with careful selection of the new member, result in a 5-2 or better anti-Huff lineup. Our worst case would seem to be a 3-3 stalemate where the board deadlocks on selecting a new member, and deadlocks and therefore fails to approve any new excesses of Huff.
It will likely be a person from the Joplin Progress Committee.
I don't think anyone on the current board will even nominate Sharp.
Good because he's a piece of ****
When is new BOE seated?
You must love the Globe for providing such great material. Article on bright futures and how CJ says wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to worry about education by how well are students did on test.
Dear Ms. Sharp, please be gracious in defeat and complete your fifteen-year Joplin BOE service on a high note. We do still care about you as a person and believe that your heart is for Joplin; we just don't believe that you have the heart to make the changes that need to be made for our district to survive and thrive. The voters have spoken and you used to listen to what we had to say. Please listen again and call your final meeting when all of the members INCLUDING those newly elected can be in attendance. Randy Steele was quoted saying it's time to set aside politics. You've continually said that you want to be a role model for the children. Prove it and show Joplin that you can be a leader.
