The spending continues: C. J. Huff adds another position at central office

While waiting for that FEMA ship that may or may not come in, C. J. Huff keeps right on spending. Without board authorization, Huff has added a new administrative position for the Joplin R-8 School District.

The position of professional learning coordinator is designed to help the district's curriculum director, Sarah Stevens. Reportedly, the person who was hired for the position has a master's degree in curriculum, something Stevens, who had only about three years in teaching, then became a learning coach and almost immediately afterward became head of curriculum, does not have.

In the recent state audit, the district was criticized for having a number of people who were not qualified for their upper level positions. Somehow, it doesn't seem likely that the auditors would think the way to address the problem is to hire a qualified person to be an assistant to the unqualified person.

The advertisement for the position, which accompanies this post, was only online for a couple of days, and as far as I can determine it was only posted in house and was never posted as a public opening on the district website.

The added position also comes at a time when the district is employing a curriculum consultant to help with Common Core and the district's new "Visible Learning" concept. As of this month, the district will have paid more than $100,000 in the past seven months for the consultant and related program materials.

I will have more information on the Common Core Collaborative and Visible Learning in a later post.

This is never going to end until we stand up and say enough! Vote Koch, Roberts and Martucci to send the message that we have to live within our means.

There were only two applicants since the job was hidden from the rest of the staff. Not many of them have time to go check the internal job postings on a regular basis. I would say that is one more applicant than what they wanted. Others who wanted that job should file a lawsuit. I expect there are a few lawyers in town at this point that might be willing to help them out. Crooked is as crooked does, and cronyism continues to occur in R8 under Huff's reign on a regular basis. What a despicable mess.

Huff is just unbelievable. That makes four full-time, twelve month positions in that department alone. it used to be 1 1/2, 10-11 month positions. This is a lot of people for a district that is supposed to be so AWESOME!

I wonder if they were hiding this new job from applicants, the Board, or the voting public? It was hidden, that's for sure. It's kind of like not posting the open job positions until after Tuesday so the people won't see the teacher flight happening again this year.
