I never expected things to move quite this fast.
David Hoover, head honcho and design genius at Dropcap Publishing, had finished formatting my new book, Silver Lining in a Funnel Cloud: Greed, Corruption, and the Joplin Tornado when I decided to rewrite the final chapter.
In the copy I sent to Hoover two weeks ago, the book ended with C. J. Huff's tirade against Debbie Fort and the surprise election of Jeff Koch as board of education president.
I had included an epilogue which featured more information about Mark Rohr, David Wallace, and some of the others who play prominent roles in the book.
With the events of the past two days, including the resignations of Huff, Randy Steele, and Mike Landis, I am writing a new final chapter tonight and barring any complications the book should be available by the middle of June, if not sooner.
I appreciate the patience all of you have shown. Hopefully, when the book is published people will have a greater understanding of how the governmental portion of the Joplin Tornado recovery went awry.
That emphasis on the governmental portion of the recovery is why I changed the subtitle of the book. Originally, as you can tell by the accompanying photo, I intended to call it Silver Lining in a Funnel Cloud: How Greed and Corruption Destroyed the Joplin Tornado Recovery.
It is obvious, however, that the Joplin Tornado Recovery has been far greater than anyone could have expected- except for the part that went through our governmental entities. That is why I changed the name.
I promise; the wait for the book is almost over.
The last chapter of the Turner tell-all "This town needs an enima: How Randy Turner exposed the turds of Joplin"
ReplyDeleteFirst to go was:
Speck, funny, he splits town and ever since, it seems the gold has returned to the green and gold.
Rohr, his arrival was clouded from his past in Ohio and his exit included fireworks with statements of "wait and see" hype. Joplin is better without him.
Wallace-Bajjalli, if it smells like, looks like, feels like and sounds like fecal matter, chances are, it just might be. It's still hard to fathom how this organization was able to waltz into town, pull a fast one and waltz out. It does not feel as if anyone has been held accountable for this sham job.
Joplin Schools, lumping this bowel movement together. The board, Huff, et al. No matter which side you stand on, for or against Huff, even the most staunch Huff supporters have to stop and ask themselves "I can't defend his decision to do this one." At some point, the board gave him enough rope and he found a way to hang himself. The board will be held accountable although the it appears all the rats have jumped ship.
The question now, who's next? Are others in the Joplin Schools administration who will take the easy road out, or wait until new leadership takes over and begins to install new leadership. It is one large mess for the next person to inherit.
Where will next bomb drop? Will there be some at the Joplin Globe who will be held to task for its failure to serve its role as community watchdog? Randy continues to reference the publication as the "newspaper of record" when its recent track is "newspaper of mass distraction."
Finally, one more bomb still exists in Joplin. Its clock has just recently begun to tick, but its time will be short. Those responsible for constructing it are already jumping ship, thus when it 'blasts' residents will once again be left asking, who's responsible for this mess?
I'm not sure their is a big wait for the book....
ReplyDeleteEnema not enima
ReplyDeleteTHERE is a tremendous wait for this book. THERE was so much going on behind the scenes after the tornado that it is difficult to put it all together, which is what Turner has done for us, and I know he will use documentation to prove he is accurate.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait, Mr. Turner!
