Hartzler: SCOTUS ruling stifles the voices of Missouri's voters

(From Fourth District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler)

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) released the following statement in regards to today’s Supreme Court ruling in the Obergefell v. Hodges case:

“I am disappointed in the Court’s decision to stifle the voices of Missouri’s voters. Decisions on marriage policy should be left in the hands of the 50 states, allowing those who wish to define marriage as being between one man and one woman, as we did in Missouri, to do so. Today’s ruling tramples on the voice of the people. I will continue to champion marriage as the union between one man and one woman so every child has the opportunity to have both a mom and a dad.”

  1. That's perfectly okay and in your right. Just remember, it is the law of the land. Recognize it. And recognize that you're on the wrong side of history.

During the days prior to the civil war the "will of the people" in many states would have kept slavery. The "will of the people" isn't always right or constitutional.

So the voters have no right to want something else or live in the past? Let me point out that there are thousands of people bringing up a past that everyone regrets but can not change and it is fully expected that their whimes are heard and acted upon. I am sick of everyone and their hardships! Get over it!

First off,I have several gay male & female friends. Their choice to be gay is that, there choice. That said,I feel the courts decision was completely incorrect. I will go one step further & say I still feel marriage should be between one man & one woman. Period. It is what God intended for mankind. Please, save ANY "hate comments " because they will be wasted on me. As a Christian,we are taught to love everyone. However, that doesnt mean you have to like the choices they make. It's a sad day in America & I weep for our youth. They will be in the wake of all our mistakes.

Many people mistakenly believe homosexuals choose their sexual preference. To that I would simply ask, did you choose to be heterosexual?

There is a difference between a religious marriage ceremony (which is entirely optional) and marriage sanctioned by the State. Whether one's religion teaches that marriage is between one man and one woman is completely irrelevant. What is relevant is the State recognizing the lawful marriage of two people, regardless of their gender, and protecting their equal rights. That is what this SCOTUS decision provided.

I'm aware of the SCOTUS decision & what it defines. Just because the States have been pressured to recognize & redefine marriage doesn't make it irrelevant. Its more of a bully effect & mob mentality. And to say that it's NOT a personal choice could not be more wrong. God chose me to be heterosexual. It's really that simple. Please, don't get me wrong! I'm not judging gays or straight. Nobody has that right. Getting a divorce is no less of a sin as being gay. We all sin daily & God is the only one who can pass judgement. I don't mean to put any religion or person down. That's not my right & a sin. Marriage has already been defined & really wasn't open to debate. I'm going to stop now because I would never ever want to hurt anyone's feelings or cause problems on this Blog. I said my piece & now,no matter what's said, I'm putting it to rest.
