With the publication of Sen. Claire McCaskill's book, Plenty Ladylike, the spotlight is once again on the 2012 U. S. Senate Republican primary, one in which McCaskill's team brought down the frontrunner, businessman John Brunner, by focusing attacks on Brunner's opponent, Congressman Todd Akin.
Brunner told the Turner Report this evening, that he learned some valuable lessons from his experience, ones that will benefit him as he runs for governor in 2016.
"The most important thing you have to have is a good ground game," Brunner said, and he has had four years to prepare that ground game.
Brunner has already organized the top 36 counties in the state, he said, and he has the exclusive use (in Missouri)of 1360 Data Base out of Alexandria, Virginia, a top data base that has been used by winning candidates in other states and provides the candidate with v
voluminous information about potential voters and donors.
Brunner is also working with members of the same team that pulled off a rarity in Massachusetts- the election of a Republican governor.
Since his defeat in 2012, Brunner says he has not stopped working to prepare himself for this campaign. He does not intend to be caught off guard this time, he said. "It's not going to happen again."
Brunner said he expects jobs and education to be major campaign issues. "Our schoolteachers' pay is 46th in the country. That's the future of our country we are talking about."
Brunner also said his campaign would stress "getting our jobs back," and "getting our roads back."
To solve those problems, Brunner said, voters are looking for "someone with business knowledge and skills."
What's the name of the database firm Brunner is using? Google doesn't find a "1360 Data Base out of Alexandria, Virginia"
