Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway will release the results of the City of Joplin audit on Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Missouri Southern State University.
"The people of Joplin have shown incredible courage and resilience as they faced a long and difficult recovery from the devastating effects of the 2011 tornado and its aftermath," Galloway said. "Government has a responsibility to operate with transparency and accountability, and I look forward to delivering this audit report to the citizens of Joplin."
The residents of Joplin initiated the audit though a standard petition process. Under Missouri law, the State Auditor`s Office may be called upon to audit a public entity, such as a city or a school district, through a petition process that includes a number of valid signatures based on a percentage of the number of voters. In the City of Joplin, 1,776 valid signatures were required to begin the audit.
Galloway will deliver the audit report at a public meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Missouri Southern State University's Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall, 3950 Newman Rd. in Joplin.
