Today, during Joplin Schools annual staff opening day event, Jeff Koch, Joplin Schools Board of Education president, presented local businessman Dana Snodgrass with the 2015 Eagle Legacy award. The Board of Education award recognizes a community member who is a tireless advocate for the betterment of Joplin students, has had a lasting impact on local education and has worked on improving the community through involvement in service to Joplin Schools.
Snodgrass has supported Joplin Schools' students over several decades. Since the 1980s, he has served in an advisory capacity for Franklin Technology Center's Auto Body and Collision repair program. He has hired numerous graduates from FTC to work in his business, Snodgrass Collision Center, including two employees who have been with him for 29 years. Since the 1990s, he has supported Joplin Schools' students with special needs by offering job-shadowing opportunities at his place of business. He has participated in the Bright Futures program since it began helping meet countless student needs from winter clothes to Christmas gifts to car repairs and more. One of his nominees said “There isn’t anything he won’t do to help these kids and schools succeed.” Snodgrass not only serves students at Joplin Schools but also has helped Joplin area youth through years of service to the Boys and Girls Club and Future Farmers of America, where he has sponsored more than 100 kids in their livestock production efforts.
