So you want to be a Joplin City Council member

(From the City of Joplin)

Citizens interested in filling the vacant General Seat on the Joplin City Council seat should submit an application to the City Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015. Applications can be obtained through the Clerk’s office on the second floor of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main Street or on the City’s website. A link to the application is listed at the end of this article.

This Council seat became vacant upon Mike Woolston’s resignation from the Council. The Joplin City Council voted to accept his resignation at the September 21 Council meeting.

Candidates for the Council General Seat should be a qualified voter of the City of Joplin and have been a Joplin resident for at least the immediate past four years.

The City Council will discuss the next step in the process of filling the seat at their October 5, 2015 meeting. At the conclusion of the process, the candidate who receives the majority of Council votes will take the office and complete the term until the next City Council election in 2016.

For more information, contact the City Clerk at 624-0820, ext. 220.

The fix is already in on this one: expect one of Seibert's pharm sales buddies to get the job.

I hope some of the readers of this blog consider applying, because apparently they know how to do it better than the people who are currently serving. As they say, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, whine and complain on social media about the people doing it."

And those with less intellect berate those who voice their opinions on social media....

Yes I know my statement puts me in the same class as you. We are both pathetic.

One has to wonder what the criteria are for becoming a city council person. Willingness to turn a blind eye to either incompetent or corrupt behavior ? The ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory ? Policy based on what's best for the chosen few , and not the community as a whole ? Between the actions of the city council , C. J . - take the money and leave in a - Huff , and the unwillingness or inability of the local newspaper to actually report the news , this town has turned toxic. The signs along the Interstate proclaim " The Midwest at it's very best ". Either it's time to start trying to live up to that hype , or take the signs down. The old adage is " to lead by example ". Unfortunately this community is being led in the wrong direction. It's going to take a lot more than one new face to right this ship.
