Empire District Electric wants $33.4 million rate increase

The Missouri Public Service Commission has announced the formal evidentiary hearing schedule in an electric rate case filed by The Empire District Electric Company.

Formal evidentiary hearings will be held May 31, June 1-3 and June 6-10, 2016, in Room 310 of the Governor Office Building, 200 Madison Street, Jefferson City. These hearings will be held in a building that meets the accessibility standards required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Any person requiring additional accommodations to participate in these hearings should call the Public Service Commission’s hotline at 1-800-392-4211 (voice) or Relay Missouri at 711 before the hearings.

The Commission will be holding local public hearings in this rate case. An order announcing that schedule will be issued when dates, times and locations are finalized.

On October 16, 2015, The Empire District Electric Company filed an electric rate case with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking to increase annual electric revenues by approximately $33.4 million. According to the company, a residential customer using 1,000 kWh (1,000 kilowatt-hours) of electricity would see a monthly increase of approximately $12.54 under the rate request.

The Empire District Electric Company serves approximately 150,300 electric customers in the Missouri counties of Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone and Taney.
