Congressman Billy Long (MO-07) issued the following statement following President Obama’s announcement of executive actions to restrict Second Amendment rights for law-abiding Americans:
“After 7 years, it's certainly not a surprise that President Obama continues to treat the Constitution and the legislative powers it grants Congress as mere suggestions that he doesn’t need to follow,”said Rep. Long.
“As a former law professor he knows it's not his prerogative to change the law to bypass Congress and the will of the American people. This is just the latest example of the president infringing on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. I oppose these executive actions and will continue fighting to protect the Second Amendment.”
Oh my god! Nothing...NOTHING in what he said restricts the 2nd amendment rights of law abiding citizens. If you are a law abiding citizen, a background check should be no problem.
ReplyDeleteOh my god! Nothing...NOTHING in what he said restricts the 2nd amendment rights of law abiding citizens.
ReplyDeleteHere are some of the things he's actually saying he'll do:
Declaring people who have another person take care of their financial affairs as barred, despite the law's requirement of a formal adjudication.
Stirring the pot about who needs a Federal Firearms License (FFL) to sell a gun, after Clinton drastically narrowed who's allowed to get a FFL.
He's going to harasses those who ship guns if they're stolen in transit, where the law says if shipped FOB the title has been transferred to the recipient, who also is the only one who really knows if they've been successful delivered.
If you are a law abiding citizen, a background check should be no problem.
If that equals de facto gun registration, you better believe "law abiding citizens" have a problem with it. Sure, that's against the law, but we've seen that the law means little to nothing to Obama when he's dissatisfied with what the other branches of the government are doing.
This is what you THINK he said. Pay attention to what he actually said and stop letting your "he's coming for our guns" mentality from adding to your hysteria.
DeleteWhat is a "law abiding citizen" that they all keep talking about? It appears to be some kind of jerk that is afraid to go out into public without a big iron on his hip. A real man does not need a gun to be secure in his own space. I know these "law abiding citizens" think they need their guns to protect themselves from the government but I doubt if any of them really realize that if the government wants their guns, the government will take their guns. You see, an AK just is not a match for a Hellfire.
ReplyDeleteSounds like anonymous 11:13 might be afraid Obama is going to cut into his gun sales.
ReplyDeleteDid ya hear him say he was going to run for a third term? He said it real sneaky but it was there. Swear to god it was.
ReplyDeleteYou all miss the point. It is illegal to make laws by any method except by Congress. The courts have shot down every executive order he has signed.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice talking point but no they haven't. And the executive orders that he will be signing on background checks are not making new law. They are closing loopholes in already existing laws.
Delete11:55 AM: Since I only sell guns to Mexican drug cartels, I don't need no stinkin' license.
ReplyDeleteYou know he is going to run for another term, regardless of what he promised the voters, because otherwise he is going to have to start paying for his own meals, whiskey and poker tournament entry fees.
ReplyDelete2:33 pm,
ReplyDeleteThis thread is about Obama not Billy Long...
6 Reasons Obama Is Untrustworthy on Guns, which are, each supported by a paragraph, The mass shooting bait and switch, The argument from emotion, The false crisis, Cost blindness, Skepticism of armed self-defense, Support for [total] gun bans, and here's the final paragraph:
ReplyDeleteIf the idea that "Obama's trying to take away your guns" is an "imaginary fiction," it's not because he does not want to take away your guns. It's because political and legal realities prevent him from doing so. But for anyone who cares about the right to armed self-defense, the understanding that Obama does not like guns and reads the Second Amendment so narrowly that it has no practical meaning colors everything he does or proposes in this area. When he talks about "universal background checks," for example, you have to wonder how that requirement could be enforced without a national gun registry, a prerequisite for the sort of mass confiscation that Obama has repeatedly praised. That's not paranoia; that's logic.
Or as I put it in another thread, "If you like your guns, you can keep your guns."
It turns out Obama has figured out a way to take away the guns of 100s of thousands to millions of Americans, depending on how much cooperation he gets from states (New York will do this to 40,000 people ASAP). And that most certainly includes Missouri; while our legislature is conservative, our current governor certainly is not when it comes to guns, and the State Police and DMV have already been caught in one scheme like this, we can be sure other state bureaucrats would love to play this game.

Let's just keep shooting each other in the faces until there's not a problem anymore.
