New judge assigned to accused Carthage child killer's case

Judge David Dally sustained a change of judge motion Monday from the public defender representing Tearra Olson, 20, Carthage, who is charged with the second degree murder of Emalata Hoeft, 2, her boyfriend's daughter.

Judge David Mouton was assigned the case.

In addition to second degree murder, Olson is charged with felony abuse or neglect of a child. She told police she slammed Emalata's head against a hard surface three times August 29, resulting in the child's death.

Olson was living with the child's father, Albert Steven O'Conner. She told police that Emalata Hoeft was crying and out of frustration she hit the child's head against the hard surface.

No decision has been made on public defender Larry Maples' request for a change of venue.
