A protest was held at King Palace in Joplin Saturday after a man claims the owner did not allow him to be accompanied by his service dog as went through the buffet.
About 10 people participated in the protest.
The accompanying KOAM video features the reporting of Chloe Leshner.

I'm all in on this, military, dog lover, service dog family history, customer service manager . . . but, they offered full service, and this is news ? Sounds a bit petty, if true as reported.

DeleteAs a medically retired combat veteran who was in Afghanistan and has a service dog...thank you for your support! It is very appreciated. Unlike the person who commented right below your post.
DeleteSeeing-eye dogs for the blind are one thing, but this insistence on "service" dogs having access to restaurants, passenger compartments of airplanes, hospitals, etc. is surely a sign of a society with impaired values. Who are these jerks who want me to eat with their dog and step in its crap on a public sidewalks?
ReplyDeleteI do not hold with animal cruelty, but unless the dog was on the menu, it does not belong near a buffet table! I'll be dining at King Palace this week in appreciation.
I am a combat veteran and I have severe Ptsd and tbi, traumatic brain injury. I have a service dog that goes everywhere w me. These animals are amazing in how they help not only soldiers like myself but people in general. You obviously have no idea the definition of anxiety, depression, or well any disability from what it sounds like, wait unless I'm blind...right?! As for service dogs pooping on your sidewalk...that's is more than likely NOT a service dog. But yet an irresponsible pet owner. Handlers and service animals have BOTH been trained on etiquette.
DeleteI seen a couple with a dog in the shopping cart at the Neighborhood market on 7th street...the dog had a sweater on that said compassion dog....lol what a hoot. But the couple did look a little "goofy" if you are not blind or deaf keep the dog at home
ReplyDeleteThis s a bunch of BS and I'm getting tired of seeing protests for menial things like this, in addition, protesting is typically propaganda for someone's moronic agenda and it just proves that many Americans are falling into the trap of socialism/marxism/communism style thought. Many "service" dogs are a bamboozle and it's the dog owners wanting to take their dog everywhere. I knew someone involved in training for this program and those she was training were dog owners who viewed their dogs as their children and wanted to justify taking them everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe news story does not clarify whether the dog is an actual "service animal", but I suspect that it is. If that is the case, then the restaurant made a mistake and clearly needs to be better informed/trained as to how to handle service animals. I don't think they meant any harm...just ill-informed. Also, just for clarification, the ADA rules do not recognize any animal used for any purpose other than as a "service animal". Animals used as a "companion animal", "compassion animal", "emotional support animal" are not qualifed as service animals and are in reality pets. In addition, at this time ADA only recognizes specially trained dogs and miniature horses/ponies as service animals.
ReplyDeleteSome people do exaggerate and will do anything for attention. But I do believe that if that is in fact a service dog he should be treated with respect.
ReplyDeleteWong was wrong.
ReplyDeleteWong was white.....er, right
ReplyDeleteI also suffer from PTSD. I have a service dog that travels first class with me. Goes to the finest restaurants in the world with me. And is better trained and better behaved than most people. So, to you haters that don't want my dog near you. Take a hike and find the hole you crawled out of.
