Graves: Gun control won't stop radical Islamic terrorism

(From Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves)

More gun control is not going to stop radical Islamic terrorism.

Absolutely no one who loves this country and values human life wants to see what happened in Orlando last week happen ever again. It was terrible and tragic and disgusting. Our prayers are with everyone affected by the attack, especially the families of the victims.

The terrorist attack in Orlando was everything we associate with radical, hateful groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda.

But more gun control isn’t going to stop this evil. And new laws that impact the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans are not going to end radical Islamic terrorism.

We need to find new ways to weaken groups like ISIS. We have to cut off their finances and stop them from coming into this country. And we must do more to prevent people from being radicalized by foreign terrorist organizations.

But the spectacle that took place in the nation’s capital last week would do none of those things.

The so-called “No Fly, No Buy” bill would not have prevented Omar Mateen from doing what he did in Orlando. He was not on the No-Fly List when he purchased the firearms he used in the attack, and every single person “sitting in” at the U.S. Capitol knew that.

Anti-gun liberals treat every crisis or national tragedy as an opportunity to push their agenda on the American people. This is no different. And no scare tactic will make me support the unconstitutional gun laws they want us to live under.

Radical Islamic terrorism is the root of the problem we’re facing. Everyone in the federal government has to do a better job of finding ways to contain and destroy the groups that promote this evil. But nothing anti-gun liberals are proposing would stop it. And they know that.

  1. Deal with our domestic terrorism.

Under current United States law, set forth in the USA PATRIOT Act, acts of domestic terrorism are those which: "(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; (B) appear to be intended— (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States."

Jehovah’s Witnesses accused of vandalizing 7,000 year-old pyramid out of fears of devil worship Tom Boggioni 28 Jun 2016 at 15:59 ET
Members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses church have been accused to vandalizing a 7,000 year old religious site in Mexico as part of a religious campaign against devil worship, reports Telesur.

According to local media sources, recent damage at the base of a pyramid at the San Bartolo Tutotepec archeological site falls in line the destruction of altars in the area that church members have taken responsibility for.

Members of the Christian sect state that they are following the word of God and believe that the sites are still used for traditional rituals that are “not Christian” and may involve devil worship."

    JEEBUS!!!

The earth is only 6000 years old too.

Immediately following the "shoe-bomber" incident, everyone had to remove their shoes for scanning when going through airport security. After 9/11, box cutters (and just about everything else) were banned from being carried on to planes. The "no-fly" list was established to, hopefully, thwart another attempt by terrorists to use planes as weapons. So, people who are on the "no-fly" list can't board a plane because there is reason to believe they pose a threat to Americans and other travelers, but it's okay for them to buy guns to shoot us. Makes perfect sense.

Secret lists than cannot be appealed without years of expensive litigation (8 years and 3.5 million in this case) to prevent Americans from doing anything is abhorrent, a complete denial of the due process we're guaranteed by the 5th and 14th Amendments. As the anti-gun, cares nothing about the 2nd Amendment ACLU points out.

So neither of these are "okay". If the government has enough evidence "to believe they pose a threat to Americans and other travelers" they should take much stronger action, not use this and other lists, to which all NRA members could be administratively added (they've been insisting for decades we're a greater threat than jihadists), to further infringe on our civil liberties.

The real solution to this problem is simply to ban all weapons and start collecting firearms across the nation.

@4:47 AM: Hey, if you're willing to volunteer to do collecting, we gun owners are game, let's see who wins....

Nothing will fix these problems, but some gun control may help, full machine guns have been illegal for a very long time now. When was the last time you heard of any of these crimes committed using a full auto machine gun?

Full machine guns have never been illegal, except in some states, see this article where Kansas Democratic Govneror Kathleen Sebelius signs a bill in 2008 allowing them and other NFA weapons to be owned by Kansans. About 200-250,000 are legally in civilian hands, and yes, to date, only two of them have been used in crimes, one by a police officer.

With a special permit anyone who's not a criminal can get (use a trust, which you want to anyway, to avoid your CLEO blocking it)? That's legal enough for me, and the owners of 250,000 of them.

Why is it so difficult for gun grabbers to admit when they get their "facts" flatly and completely wrong?
