Phillip Mitchell leaving KSN

Phillip Mitchell, the hometown boy who worked his way up from reporter to morning anchor to anchor of Living Well, and the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts on KSN, will sign off for the final time June 30.

Mitchell is moving on to another line of work, though at this point he has not announced what his new job will be.

Mitchell got his start in broadcasting at a much earlier age than his peers, starting at age 10 on the Operation KIDS show on KODE. He returned to Joplin television in 2007 at KSN as a weekend reporter and photographer. He became a weekday reporter and then host of the station's morning show in 2010.

When longtime anchor Toni Valliere was hired by a Milwaukee station in August 2013, Mitchell was promoted to evening anchor, a position he currently shares with Jessica Schaer.

KSN posted the following advertisement Thursday with Missouri Southern State University's Career Services:

KSNF, the NBC affiliate in Joplin, MO, is seeking a main anchor for its 4pm, 6pm and 10pm news. Duties include anchoring a minimum of two and a half hours per weekday, and turning at least one anchor franchise package per week. During NBC special events such as Sunday Night Football, the Olympic Games and other high profile NBC special programing, anchoring may also be required.

Our anchors are expected to appear at station-sanctioned events, as well as be active and involved in the community.

We expect all of our anchors to be active leaders in the newsroom. They are involved in the producing process, from selecting stories to writing and proofing. They are also expected to actively engage in social media on behalf of the station and post content to the station website. They must generate, coordinate, edit, write and be able to shoot their weekly anchor franchises.
Required or Preferred Qualifications (ie: minimum GPA, major, experience):
College degree required. Candidates must have a minimum of two years anchoring experience and three years reporting experience. Strong writing skills are a must.
Application Instructions:
Your resume reel should include examples of recent anchoring, as well as both hard news and feature stories. Must show several examples of live shots.
