The jail roster does not indicate which agency arrested Mohr, who was free on $20,000 bond while awaiting trial on seven felony charges, involving possession and trafficking in heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines.
The Joplin Police Department arrested Mohr a week ago today on three felony charges- robbery, armed criminal action, and possession of a controlled substance and submitted the information supporting the charges to Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney Dean Dankelson.
Though Mohr's alleged partner in crime, Steven Prall, 25, Joplin, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute, Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney Dean Dankelson has yet to file any charges against Mohr.
Well I guess technically robbing someone of their property IS receiving stolen property. Wonder how long before the charge gets dropped because of lack of evidence?

ReplyDeleteIf he's been formally charged, it hasn't made its way to Missouri Case Net as of when I write this comment. All the 2016 outstanding charges are drug offences, and the 2015 cases either have no charging info or are superseded by other cases.

ReplyDelete"Innocent until proven guilty", and bail is only supposed to try to ensure that the defendant shows up in court.
Turn it around: suppose a abusive prosecutor accused you of something you didn't do, that maybe never even happened (look at the Duke false rape accusation case), and an abusive court system denied you bail so you would have to try to defend yourself while in jail, and let's go further and assume the authorities running the jail also record you privileged discussions with your lawyer and sends a copy to the prosecution.
These laws and principles aren't designed to protect the real criminals, but innocents like you. That they also produce less than optimal outcomes with people like Ace Mohr is a price we pay for not living in a police state, which can be defined as a state where things are set up for the convenience of the police, not the subjects (for they aren't citizens in such a state).
And the real problem here is not bail policies, but seems to be a failure to seriously prosecute Mr. Mohr, for whatever reasons.
I too am curious as to why this new charge with a case number isn't showing up on Casenet yet. Sweeping another under the rug and you caught it on the jail roster, perhaps? This story keeps getting more mind boggling. Mr. Dankelson needs to do his job and protect the citizen's from further crime. Robbery, drugs, robbery, drugs, drugs, drugs, more drugs, robbery and now probably a burglary. People don't just casually end up with stolen property. Hope he has a burglary charge next.
ReplyDeleteWhy not charge him Federally? That way if he bonds out he would be under electronic surveillance. Oh but that's right, you wouldn't want a county and state informant under federal surveillance.
