Graves: New president means new EPA director and that's good for America

(From Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves)

President Obama’s EPA had a radical agenda. And bureaucrats at the agency were willing to do whatever they could to force that agenda on the American people.

Fortunately for rural America, a new President means a new EPA. It also means we have the chance to wipe away some of the most outrageous regulations of the Obama era.

In February, I sent a letter to President Trump asking him to take aim at the worst examples of federal overreach from Obama's EPA. That EPA wrote anti-coal regulations that threatened to shut down power plants across the country, it raised energy costs for countless American families, and it forced a rule known as Waters of the U.S. down all of our throats.

Remember WOTUS? The EPA rule that allowed federal bureaucrats to come to our homes and take control over even the smallest bodies of water – including ponds and streams – on our private property. Fortunately, the President took a much needed step towards repealing that rule last week.

WOTUS was the best example of President Obama's out-of-control EPA. And like the rest of that EPA, we're glad to see it go out the door with the entire previous administration.

I truly believe that this planet is God's gift to us. And how we steward it is our gift back. The EPA has a legitimate role to play in ensuring our environmental concerns are balanced with the economic realities of our country. But we need people at the EPA who understand how rural America works. And we need people who understand that we need balance here. I'm looking forward to having just that under this new administration.

  1. Absolutely!! The onerous, unfair regulation has held this economy; not to think of coal miners and oil&gas workers being so abused!
President Trump has immediately put a lot of handsome paying jobs in play simply by getting those two pipelines moving

Later they will contribute to energy independence, and growth in refineries and electrical generating

OK, this is just about the dumbest thing I have seen or heard. Cutting back on regulations of land, air and water is going to make America great again. Jobs for coal miners has caused many deaths and serious diseases from their work. Oil workers and the fracking industry has polluted untold numbers of aquifers and let us not even get started on earthquake occurrences in so many states. What rock did you crawl out from under and look at the wages paid to some of those coal miners when raises are requested. The reason they live in such a state is that wages do not equate with the danger level and renewable energy jobs pay much more and provide mobility for a modern society. pardon me but what a lizard

Oil and gas production reached an all time high during the Obama administration. So much so that extremely low natural gas prices displaced coal as the base load energy source of choice. The fracking that the EPA allowed killed coal, not regulations. Why do you hate facts so much Harvey?

  4. An all time high; but should have been even greater;
And he definitely blocked the two pipelines-- would you argue that, Anonymous?

I am sick of liberals bashing the oil& gas industry.

    To Harvey

I am sick of idiots that think he Keystone pipeline has anything to do with the US. People have had their land taken for a pipeline that BELONGS to Canada, ships CANADIAN oil to Houston refineries, and after refined are shipped to OVERSEAS buyers. It is estimated that only 12,000 temporary jobs for US citizens during its construction. EVERY state that it passes through loses property taxes for the easement taken, millions of dollars, just ask Kansas legislators. The damage that a rupture could cause would be catastrophic, particularly if it were your land. The US gets nothing for this pipeline, but the money that our refineries earn while not refining our own oil. If I were working derrick with you on the floor, you would have been snagged.

    Harvey,

How does IMPORTING CANADIAN tar sand help the US oil and gas industry? The answer is that it does NOT, it only helps TRANSCANADA.

I am sick of conservatives pretending that this country hasn't undergone an energy renaissance in the last 8 years with oil and gas being the primary beneficiary.

    T. Boone Pickins is a happy man indeed.
