Arraignment scheduled for North Middle School teacher on statutory rape charge

A 9:30 a.m. Thursday arraignment  has been scheduled in Jasper County Circuit Court for North Middle School reading teacher Amanda Schweitzer, who is charged with statutory rape.

Schweitzer is being held in the Jasper County Jail in lieu of $40,000 surety bond and $10,000 cash bond,

Schweitzer was arrested after a Joplin Police Department investigation into her alleged sending of nude photos to three students led to the discovery of information indicating she had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old boy at her home.

The Joplin R-8 School District has placed Schweitzer on administrative leave.
