Missouri Southern State University Dean of Students Ron Mitchell has been hired as the new superintendent for the East Newton R-6 School District.
Mitchell, who has been at MSSU for the past six years, previously served as principal at East Middle School and South Middle School in the Joplin R-8 School District and Diamond Middle School.
Mitchell began his education career as a history teacher and coach in the Diamond R-4 School District.
Mitchell will take over July 1 for Todd McCrackin, who is retiring.
This is a HUGE gain for East Newton. Ron Mitchell is a man of integrity and approachability. The best principal I have ever worked for/with, without a doubt!
ReplyDeleteAs an MSSU alumni, good riddance.
ReplyDeleteAs a parent of young men continually bullied at his middle school, he was not approachable, nor did he lead with integrity. He told my sons that they would just have to get used to it. Hope things have changed in regard to his opinion and knowledge about violence and minor children.
ReplyDeleteAh... as of December 2015 he was still a bully. Emotional abuse at its very definition. I suppose he ran out of room under the rug to brush things.
DeleteFired from joplin, run out of Lamar after a year, doesn't play well with others at mssu, no supt experience, yeah east Newton great selection. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThe word out of MSSU is that he had a falling out with his boss, Vice President Darren Fullerton.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't surprise me. He notoriously treated college students like middle schoolers. He never should have gotten that job.
DeleteThis isn't good. His favorite movie is "The Breakfast Club".
ReplyDeleteWhat do you expect ... it is East Newton! How long do you think he will be able to keep this job? Amazing but will be a great circus show to watch! Should be like the blind leading the blind! Wow! And it does make you feel sorry for the NEXT superintendent --- they will have a huge mess to clean up; superintendent and board clusters!
ReplyDeleteHe is a great. patience is definitely a word that comes to mind. I was a ornery middle schooler who gave him so much trouble. He could have treated me completely different, but he was encouraging and positive. Always friendly.
ReplyDeleteMr. Mitchell was a great principal at (at the old) South. He did a great job working with my son and his friend (plus some others) when they were being bullied.
ReplyDeleteThis man was a target of the former regime. Perfect? No. He just had the misfortune of getting on the wrong side of Besendorfer and Huff.
Good luck, Mr. Mitchell!!! Go do some great things!
Concerned East Newton Parent, who left Joplin Schools, partly because of this man. We experienced him as a principal who made it obvious everything was his way, or the highway. He bullied students, staff and parents. We have continued to watch him go to other school districts and leave under less than great circumstances, with the parents in these districts, being relieved. We had hoped we would not have to deal with him again. It was also known, while he was in Joplin Schools, that if an administrator, from another Joplin school, did not want to keep a staff member, but did not have sufficient reasons for dismissal, the staff member was transferred to his school, where their life was made either miserable; and they quit. Or, he would work until he found a reason to fire them. There are good people, families and students in East Newton. We are not perfect. It is rural, but we are not ignorant, nor should we be joke about town; as hinted at above, by some comments. This is not good news for East Newton.
