Please join me, Joplin Schools Leadership Team, and Board of Education in extending our best wishes and tremendous appreciation to Paul Barr who is retiring June 30, 2017, after 23 years of devoted service to the district.
During his tenure, we have relied on Paul’s disciplined, balanced, and strategic financial leadership to skillfully guide the district through a multitude of changes and challenges. Paul’s attention to detail and commitment to the students, staff, and patrons of the district has resulted in Joplin Schools’ sound financial health for more than two decades.
Paul plans to spend immediate retirement time with family, but will stay professionally active in the future as well.
Paul is committed to helping district administrators and support staff implement a smooth and seamless transition to new financial leadership.

If he did such a fine tremendous job then why is it that The Joplin school District is in such a financial bind taking out a loan that will cost them 5 million dollars over the next two years he also allowed CJ Huff to go through money like there was no end to where it was coming from they knew they weren't getting all the money back from FEMA and they didn't care Huff pretty much had a blank check for whatever he wanted and Paul put his signature on it all good riddance it's about time get while the getting is good I guess when the money was gone so is he go figure
ReplyDeleteSo very glad he is out the door. He is, in large part part, the reason our district is in the financial crisis we are in. Let's hope that the next CFO will be more fiscally responsible, giving better counsel when it comes to spending taxpayer funds.
ReplyDeleteSO, let me get this straight. He's worked for the district for 23 years, he was the same guy at the wheel when Jim SImpson was here and the finances had no issues, but now he is responsible for the woes of the district. How about realizing Paul has no power to do anything on his own. He works for the Superintendent and BOE. They make the decisions.
ReplyDeleteEnablers make the world go around!
ReplyDeleteBehind every decision maker there is a whole cast of eager helpers.
If anyone knows that I know that!
I hope to see him enjoying himself on one of JHS' might-as-well tennis courts...
ReplyDelete923...he could have found another job...he could have been more candid with the piblic, but no he was enjoying a sweetened retirement plan with Huff...no one else had it.
ReplyDelete"Paul’s attention to detail and commitment to the students, staff, and patrons of the district has resulted in Joplin Schools’ sound financial health for more that two decades."
ReplyDeleteUh, right.
"Paul’s attention to detail and commitment to the students, staff, and patrons of the district has resulted in Joplin Schools’ sound financial health for more <<>> two decades."
ReplyDeleteWas the typo in the original?
Both Turner Reports and the Joplin Globe have the exact same typo.
I didn't change a word in the news release that was sent to me by the district. That being said, I should have done more than spellcheck it and I probably would have discovered the error. I will make that correction. Thanks for spotting that.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the need to correct this mistake if the Joplin R-8 press release (probably written by the highly paid (almost said crack) R-8 Public Relations team) really has a typo?
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I asked was to be sure that you hadn't inadvertently inserted a typo into the R-8 communique.
Leave it as it is and point it out in my opinion.
