Graves: Tax reform is finally here

(From Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves)

As a child, all I ever wanted for Christmas was a model airplane. Now that I’m a little older, I’d settle for a nice pair of socks and less taxes. While I’m unable to deliver on the socks, I’m pleased to say that Americans will receive a tax cut that will put more money in your pocket.

This week, I voted to send President Trump the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a comprehensive tax reform plan that will cut taxes across the board for Missourians. I voted for this bill because it puts more money in your pocket, creates economic growth, and repeals parts of Obamacare.

Moreover, both the standard deduction and the child tax credit are doubled! As a result, the average American family of four will receive an estimated tax cut of $2,059!

Farmers and small businesses will benefit too by being able to fully expense their new equipment allowing them to grow and create jobs.

And finally, we eliminate one of the most expensive parts of Obamacare, the individual mandate. In doing so, we are providing families with much-needed relief and flexibility to buy the health insurance that best meets their needs.

For over 30 years, the tax code has grown out of control. I’m proud to say we’ve now fixed that and replaced it with a tax code that is simpler and fairer for all; our economy is poised to thrive like never before!

Let’s be honest, it wasn’t the government’s money in the first place so it’s hard to call tax reform a gift. However, in keeping with the giving spirit, more families from all across Missouri will keep more of their money. For the first time in a generation, tax reform is finally here.

I wonder if Sham Graves is secretly wishing for a better grasp of proper grammer to use in his constituent comunications.

Option 1: Now that I’m a little older, I’d settle for a nice pair of socks and LOWER TAXES.

Option 2: Now that I’m a little older, I’d settle for a nice pair of socks and LESS TAXATION.

Option 3: Now that I’m a little older, I’d settle for a nice pair of socks and A LOWER LEVEL OF TAXATION.

OK, why is it every time we hear of how much more we are going to get it gets larger and larger. No mention of taxes going up year by year as they take away deductions and add more to the wealthy. Uh, this will mean more money in Missouri coffers to spend, no mention on how much Missouri gets back from the Federal government each year. Every dollar we send to Washington Missouri gets back more than is sent, sometimes in the past it has been $1.29 for every dollar sent. They always neglect to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but in Missouri's case it does not make a difference because they are like the three monkey's sitting on a branch. Cannot believe how these legislators fawned over Trump on the day this insane tax bill passed. Made one sick to their stomach when most of them were calling him names polite people would not call someone in public.
The best thing is these "republicans" will go away rich beyond most citizens in Missouri ever thought about being and have perks unsurpassed in history. We do need less education and more cannon fodder for the military for the new wars about to erupt overseas and who knows what will be happening here with these cutbacks to mothers, infants and the old.

Wow, this will make many hundredaires. But what will we do if another financial crisis calls for stimulous spending? Seems we are wasting money on a good economy. Trump/Repubs act like it is 2007. Soon enough I guess?

    MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

    Massive deficits ahead?

Remember Grover Norquist and all those Republicans who signed his pledge?

I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.

Interview on NPR's Morning Edition, May 25, 2001

What does governemnt do for you?

    Poop in your food?

Dangerous drugs that kill when used as prescribed?

    Lead in your drinking water?

    Rivers that catch on fire?

Fire exit safety regulations that protect your family?

Building codes which help prevent death and destruction?

All these bad things are prevented and or prohibited by government regulation.

Republicans have told you for 40 years they want to shut that whole thing down.

They will SHUT IT ALL DOWN.

This won't even begin to fix Joplin though. Where do you even begin here?
