Billy Long: It was a great first year- President Trump doesn't just talk, he delivers

(From Seventh District Congressman Billy Long)

On January 20, 2017, President Trump was sworn into office and became the 45th president of the United States. We’re only a year into his presidency, and President Trump has already delivered on numerous promises, including improving our economy, cutting regulations and holding our government accountable. As one of his first supporters, I knew even before day one that unlike other candidates, President Trump was going to do a lot more than just talk – he was going to deliver.

Under President Trump, the U.S. economy is booming. This momentum has created more jobs and lowered our national unemployment rate. In 2017, more than 2 million jobs were added to the economy and as of December, the unemployment rate was at 4.1 percent, which is the lowest it’s been in years. However, jobs added to the economy and the unemployment rate aren’t the only areas of our economy in which President Trump is having success. Last year, both the House and the Senate passed H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This bill, which was signed into law, provides $5.5 trillion in tax cuts, with 60 percent of those tax cuts going to families. So far, the results have only been positive with more than 2.6 million people getting pay raises or bonuses from their employers.

But taxes aren’t the only thing going down, so are regulations. So far in 2017, President Trump cut, delayed or streamlined over 1,500 regulations resulting in savings of $8.1 billion. These rules and regulations, which cause more harm than good, cost money and hinder job growth. After taking office, President Trump signed a Presidential Order stating for every new regulation, two must be eliminated. However, he eliminated even more than that. In 2017, for every new regulation there were 22 deregulatory actions.

Similar to the economy and overregulation, government accountability was also put on the backburner by previous administrations. From the get-go, President Trump made a promise to the American people that their tax dollars would be spent wisely, and the government would be held accountable for its promises. So far, he’s kept his word by ending abusive practices implemented by past administrations and nominating strong, conservative judges.

The administration has set out to have an even better 2018, which I have no doubt it will be. I look forward to this trend continuing over the coming years. The American people deserve a government that works for them rather than against them. President Trump is doing just that.

Let me see Harvey, Obama took over when the DOW was at 7,000 and ended with 18,000. Trump said this was a bubble and it was fake. Unemployment in 2008 was over 10% and was under 5% by the end of the Obama era. Trump, and many a Joplin resident said those numbers were not real, that unemployment was probably more like 20%. Remember that? It was only about 18 months ago.

How do you explain such open hypocrisy? You all are trying to hope people have forgotten what Obama started with compared to what Trump started with. Its not going to happen. While the Trump tax cuts are being called on as a heroic action, lets wait and see what happens. It will take more than a few "thousandaire" bonuses to convince me. Time will tell, but here in Missouri they are already calling for raising taxes on gas to fix our roads. How can this be needed if the tax cuts are being lauded as a way to bolster tax coffers by so promised job creation? And how is this going to effect the debt, which is all conservatives talked about for 8 years? To me it makes no sense to give tax breaks at this time. There was no need for stimulus at this time. If we were in a free fall, like in 2007, then maybe.
And I wont even get into the behavior of the President..... Next Christian that knocks on my door better be ready to explain the support for such a vile human.

At least President Trump believes in God and America, unlike the last guy.
Last time I checked God & Country are two of the most important things.

Typical lying hypocrite "party before country" republican response. Hit them with the ugly truth and they dust off their bible, pull the flag out of the drawer, salute and lie some more. Don't confuse them with facts. They are now in their own version of "Utopia" with the most corrupt administration this planet has ever seen. The Alternative facts universe is alive and well. If a democrat had done any of the unethical immoral crap this administration has done, these same hacks would be donning their white sheets, flying good ol' rebel flags, carrying their hangin' ropes and crying their little racist bigoted eyes out. These same fools don't understand that by cutting taxes (nothing but a plan to make their rich owners more wealth) there is less money to repair roads and bridges. Then the geniuses don't see a gas tax as making up for this mistake, but they blame it on the oil company for being greedy. Keeps their republican tarnish cleaner that way. Yessir, God and country. Try telling that to your rich buddy that doesn't care if there is a flag flying or not as long as he can keep paying minimum wage, cut benefits and increase profits right along with banking his huge tax break. Trickle down didn't work before and it won't work now. Unless you want another Bush recession.

OK Billy Blob. You may now remove your nose from trump's backside.

That's right. To hell with clean air and water. The Koch brothers businesses will do much better now that they don't have to scrub the toxins from their pollutants. Just push it right into the air, land and water. There is enough of that clean stuff to absorb the toxins right? Not to mention, The better the Koch brothers do the more you get in your pocket. Them buffets can get expensive if the tax payers ain't paying for it.

Looks like your getting a little thin there bubba. Better hit Vegas again. Your ALEC money is waiting.

You actually believe there is government accountability for this corrupt administration? What kind of fool are you? Do you know anything about the emoluments clause? Do you know what the definition of corruption is? Do you know what morals and ethics mean? It is clearly evident that this administration does not. But then again, since there is a "R" beside the name then that makes all the unethical, immoral and vile crap that you and your moron president do OK.

You actually stated "The American people deserve a government that works for them rather than against them." When is this going to start? You fools don't listen to the American people. Unless they are the millionaires and billionaires that will buy your lunch and pad your corrupt filthy pockets.
