Education
Master’s degree or higher in educational administration

Valid Missouri principal’s certificate for the appropriate grade levels


Summary
The principal is the instructional leader for his or her building and is responsible for the daily operation of the building.

Instructional Leadership
  • Assumes responsibility and instructional leadership for the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the educational program.
  • Develop and maintain a "learning community approach" with expectations for effective processes and procedures for leadership and learning for the organization.
  • Works to build the leadership capacity of the assistant principals, teachers, and classified staff members.
  • Provides for effective instructional strategies for teachers and support, including data analysis for student and school improvement efforts.
  • Establishes, monitors, and evaluates school improvement goals as documented in the annual Building School Improvement Plan (BSIP).
  • Uses data to make decisions about curriculum, assessment, instruction and all school improvement efforts.
  • Communicates with students, teachers, parents and community members using a variety of mediums including technology.
  • Coordinate programs with booster clubs and parent organizations.
  • Partners with teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and individual teacher performance.
  • Coordinates and promotes professional growth plans and opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates New Teacher Induction and ongoing staff development program.
  • Establishes a professional development plan for all building level administrators with on-going dialogue, reflection, and evaluation.
  • Responsible for horizontal and vertical articulation and curricular alignment.
  • Works with teachers and parents to implement student interventions that differentiate instruction based on student need.
  • Reviews curriculum development proposals and oversees the development of the course of study.
  • Interview and select teachers, assistant principals, and classified staff members.
  • Evaluates teachers, counselors, assistant principals, and classified staff members.
  • Oversees the school's assessment program.
  • Establishes a culture of mutual respect and excellence through dialogue and relationships with staff, students, central office administrators, and community members.
  • Develops, monitors, and evaluates programs to enhance positive school culture and climate.
  • Responsible for staffing, enrollment procedures, and the oversight of master schedule.
  • Coordinates selection of all certified and classified staff.
  • Provide effective oversight of special programs including the school's college, career and technology focused efforts (i.e. special education, student advisory program, student mentoring program, and career paths, and at-risk programs).
  • Maintains the school's accreditation with the Missouri School Improvement program (MSIP) and AdvancED/North Central Association.

Management of Operations
  • Coordinates the development of the Master Schedule, Student and Staff Handbooks, and Staff Supervision Schedule.
  • Develops and monitors overall school and departmental budgets and activity accounts.
  • Ultimately responsible for building operations and maintenance and the overall safety and security of the school.
  • Interprets Board of Education and central office policies and procedures.
  • Maintains student and staff handbooks, including staff supervision and building procedures.
  • Responsible for student records management, including attendance and discipline.
  • Oversees the inventory, purchase, and organization of textbooks and supplies.
  • Oversees vendor and service contracts.
  • Oversees the coordination of the building level crisis plan.
  • Supervises school activities and events.
  • Provides support and coordination for the school's athletic programs.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight of students activities (co-curricular) including graduation exercises

  • Present information to staff members, other administrators and the Board of Education
  • Respond to common questions and complaints
  • Interview students and staff
  • Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, government memos, Board policy, administrative procedure and statutes
  • Write newsletter articles, staff memos and ordinary business correspondence
  • Keep information confidential when required by law, policy or a particular situation

Computation
Ability to compute ratios, percentages and create and interpret graphs and figures

Reasoning
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

Technology
Basic computer word processing, spreadsheet and research skills

Ability to access and create reports using the district’s student information software

Physical Demands
An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings and supervise bus loading and unloading areas and sit for an hour or more at a time.

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Conditions and Environment
The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees.
