UPS delivered the first copies of Newton County Memories to my apartment late this week. Copies of the book, which features my recollections of the people of communities like Newtonia, Granby, Stark City, Neosho and Diamond, who have enriched my life.
If you remember the Bookmobile, Ranger Ed, Dog N Suds, the Corral, the Aroma Express, the Neosho Square, Carroll Gum's Store, Ted Arnall's Barber Shop, Reta's, Brown Derby, the Boulevard, the Newtonia Tornado, the St. Louis Cardinals on KMOX and the excitement when the first McDonald's arrived in Neosho, this is the book for you.
The book features stories on people, some still living, many no longer with us, including Dean Keeling, Max Carter, City Marshal Duane Beaver, Barbara McNeely, Mike Camerer, Ron Lankford, Bob Shore, Terry Shepherd, Hodgen O. Patrick, Rita Wheeler, T. J. Bowman, Teachers, Gary Shepherd, Tom Channel, Rue Porter, Harlan Stark, Bill Ball, Dixie Haase, Ranae Powell, Patty Renfro, Wilma Bragg, Harold Ensley, Helen Hildebrand, Willy Pierson, Bill Pierson, Gertrude Brown, Gary Nagle, James Payne, Susan Warren, Rev. Freddie Franks, Ralph Houk, Eulah Hawkins and more.
I will have more information available later on where the book can be purchased locally and I am looking for Newton County retail outlets.
I will also have information on a couple of upcoming signings.
The book can be purchased through the Amazon links at the bottom of this post or you can order a signed copy directly from me by sending $17 (including shipping) to Randy Turner, 2306 E. 8th, Apt. G, Joplin MO 64801.
