The accompanying New York Times video examines one of the closest races in the nation, the battle between incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill and Republican Attorney General Josh Hawley for U. S. Senate.
The video points out areas in which the candidates have been criticized including McCaskill's wealth, her votes against Trump Supreme Court nominees Neal Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, as well as Hawley's deciding to run for Senate nine months after winning the attorney general post with ads showing ladders that he said he would not be climbing to get to the next job, as well as his alleged mismanagement of the A. G. office.
It is noted that Hawley agrees with nearly all of President Trump's policies, including tariffs, immigrant family separations and the lawsuit to end all of the Affordable Care Act, including the provision that pre-existing conditions must be covered.
McCaskill says she favors most of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, but says that it needs fixes.
The video notes that this race could be seen as a referendum on Trump's presidency.
