Banker to Neosho city officials: $126,000 loan for golf course mowers "not essential" for the city to purchase

Neosho City Council will discuss taking out a loan for $126,000 to buy three mowers for the municipal golf course when it meets 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall and at least one banker says the purchase is not essential.

In an e-mail to Municipal Golf Course Superintendent Bill Mulkey, Heather Garner, community banking business relations director at US Bank, declined to submit a bid for the mowers. "Even though mowers are essential to a golf course, it is not considered an essential for the city to purchase."

The city received three bids with Community Bank and Trust offering a five-year-loan at 4.50 percent interest with monthly payments of $2,350.05.

Guaranty Bank submitted a proposal for 4.75 percent and $2,373.25 per month for five years.

Southwest Missouri Bank offered a lease-purchase proposal at 3.95 percent with $2,321.91 monthly payments
