Arraignment Monday for Illinois truck driver charged in connection with hit-and-run accident that killed Joplin girl

An 8 a.m. Monday arraignment is scheduled before Judge Gayle Crane in Jasper County Circuit for an Illinois truck driver charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident.

Lance T. Lee, 49, DeKalb, Illinois, was behind the wheel in the hit-and-run accident that killed Soaring Heigths Elementary third grader Destiny Chambers, 8, September 27 on Newman Road.

After Lee's truck hit the child, he continued driving until he reached Strafford and told authorities he thought he hit a mailbox, according to the probable cause statement.

Lee was bound over for trial following a January 10 preliminary hearing.
