Author's Fair scheduled at Crowder College next Saturday; I'll be there

I am looking forward to speaking and signing books at the annual Crowder College Authors' Fair a week from today, Saturday, April 27, in the Wright Conference Center.

The authors will be there from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Authors will talk about their books or about the art of writing in two rooms, while all of the authors will have their books available for purchase in a separate area.

I will do a reading and talk about my latest book, Lost Angels: The Murders of Rowan Ford and Doug Ringler, between 10:30 and 10:50 a.m. in the library classroom. Mine will be the first of three straight presentations from authors of true crime books.

Others will speak on various aspects of writing and read from their books. The scheduled speakers can be found in the schedules to the left.

In addition to copies of Lost Angels, I will also have copies of Newton County Memories, the Joplin Tornado books, Let Teachers Teach and my other non-fiction books and novels.

This is the official news release issued by Crowder College:

Authors from Southwest Missouri will be arriving at Crowder College, Neosho campus, Farber Building on April 27 to showcase and discuss their books.

More than 40 authors have signed up to participate and will present their ideas of writing, how to preserve documents, poetry, breaking bad habits in writing, and many other topics. The fair is free to all interested readers, writers, historians and those looking for an agreeable Saturday event.

Everyone is invited to attend and participate in a full day of published writing, ideas for potential writers, and followers of children’s literature at the Wright Conference Room. Come with questions, ideas, and a desire to learn about the challenges and rewards of writing and have an opportunity to appreciate what our own area authors have produced.

Starting at 9:30, authors will have displays at their tables and will be available to talk about their writing and may sell and sign books. Half of the participants will speak in 30 minute segments about their own writing process, stories that have stimulated their writing and possibilities for interested writers. Sessions will continue until 1:30, with afternoon devoted to literature for young adults and children.

At 2 p.m. The Crowder Theater Department will perform a segment of their recent production, “The Cat in the Hat.” The time from 12:30 to 2:00 is being billed as “family time.” The presentations during that time and also during the play will be the most “family friendly.”

Two pre-sessions will also be held at 8:45. Kent Farnsworth will talk about “Publishing as an Independent Writer.” The college literary magazine, The Quill, will offer an 8:45 program on getting published in The Quill. Farnsworth, who publishes under the pen name Allen Kent, will explain how those interested in publishing their own writing can produce a professional paperback at no cost to the writer. This session may be of particular interest to those wishing to write and publish personal or family histories.

The day is planned and initiated by the Crowder College Friends of the Library and co-sponsor, the Neosho Arts Council and the Neosho Newton County Library. Although this is not the first Authors’ Fair, plans have been expanded to give area writers and readers an opportunity to meet and hear writers from Southwest Missouri.
