Less than a year after beginning 4-year prison sentence, Joplin man free, accused of crimes in three states

When Joplin police officers stopped a car driving with no headlights or tail lights at A Street and Sergeant January 11, 2016, it did not take long to discover that the driver, Darrin Bresee, had active warrants for his arrest from Joplin, Duquesne and Carthage.

When police officers searched him, according to the probable cause statement, they found a meth pipe his pocket and a syringe filled with liquid meth under the seat.

Bresee, 34, pleaded guilty to four felony charges- possession of methamphetamine, auto theft, resisting arrest and burglary June 8, 2018.

Under the terms of a plea bargain agreement with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office, Bresee was sentenced to four years for each crime with the sentences to run concurrently.

Less than a year later, Bresee was back on the streets and was once again in trouble with the law.








Oklahoma online court records indicate he was arrested in Ottawa County April 15 for theft of merchandise from a retailer and trespassing at a commercial establishment after being asked to leave.

Bresee's next brush with law enforcement took place June 5 when the Joplin Police Department arrested him on a felony charge of driving while revoked.

Six days ago, Cherokee County deputies arrested Bresee in a stolen pickup and carrying a weapon.

From a Cherokee County Sheriff's Office news release:

As the truck, which had previously been reported stolen out of Jasper County, Missouri, came to a stop, 34-year-old Darrin Scott Bresee, of Joplin, began to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. The deputy discovered a handgun on Bresee at the time of the arrest.

Bresee was charged with felony possession of stolen property, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a weapon, driving while suspended, no insurance, and an outstanding Jasper County warrant.

Bond was set at $2,500 and it was not long before Bresee was back on the streets.

At 5:50 p.m. Monday, the Joplin Police Department arrested Bresee at the Michigan Place Apartments, 1502 S. Michigan for assault and trespassing.

All of this though barely a year has passed since Judge David Mouton approved the plea arrangement between Bresee and the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office.
