Hearing Monday, trial date set for Illinois trucker who killed Destiny Chambers

A pre-trial conference is scheduled Monday in Jasper County Circuit Court for the Illinois trucker charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death in connection with the September 27, 2018, death of Soaring Heights Elementary third grader Destiny Chambers.

According to the probable cause statement, Lance T. Lee, 50, DeKalb,Illinois, who was driving a semi, struck the child and did not stop until the Highway Patrol caught up to him in Strafford.

At first, Lee told the investigating officer the damage to his truck had been done when he hit a deer on I-44. He later admitted he had been involved in the accident on Newman Road and thought he hit a mailbox.

Lee's trial is scheduled to begin March 10, 2020.
