Ace Mohr receives plea deal- pleads guilty to robbery, not to assault charge

Under a plea bargain agreement with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office, Ace Mohr, 26, Carthage, pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced charge of robbery in the second degree.

Mohr's trial had been scheduled to start today.

Mohr had originally been charged with first degree robbery and assault after beating a Carthage man with brass knuckles and stealing his wallet, phone and watch on October 27, 2018, according to the probable cause statement.

Judge Dean Dankelson ordered a sentencing assessment report and will not make a decision on whether to accept the plea agreement until a 9 a.m. March 9 hearing, according to court records.

The man Mohr pleaded guilty to robbing suffered "a swollen and tender left eye, facial fractures of the orbital bones, facial fractures of the zygomatic process and facial fractures of the maxillary sinus all on the left side of his face," according to the probable cause statement.

Mohr still faces a felony domestic assault charge in connection with an August 18, 2018 incident. A hearing in that case is scheduled for February 3 in Jasper County Circuit Court.

At the time all of the counts were filed, Mohr was on probation following his January 16, 2018 guilty plea to two counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, including heroin, and receiving stolen property. That plea was also the result of a deal which included dropping four other possession charges.

Mohr's probation violation hearing is also scheduled for February 3.
