News director: We believe capitol bureau will bring KODE, KSNF viewers valuable insight

The first day of the 2020 session of the Missouri Legislature was also the first day for Nexstar Media's Jefferson City bureau, which will provide broadcast and digital news coverage to its Show-Me State television stations, including KSNF and KODE in Joplin.

Leisha Beard, news director for the Joplin stations, told the Turner Report, the bureau will enable KODE and KSN to cover the "legislature, people running for office, officeholders, holding officeholders accountable, watchdog groups, protesters, lobbyists- we will have our hands in all things political."

The new addition offers the local stations a service they have already had with their Kansas Capitol Bureau, Beard said.

"We are really excited about the addition of the Jefferson City Capitol Bureau. We are the first television stations to have a full-time dedicated staff to Missouri political reporting and we are excited for the opportunity.

"We believe this will really bring our viewers valuable insight into what is going on in our state."
