Springfield Republican's bill to ban gun-free zones heard in Missouri House

(From Eric Burlison, R-Springfield)

State Sen. Eric Burlison, R-Battlefield, filed Senate Bill 588 and Senate Bill 663 for consideration during the 2020 legislative session.

Senate Bill 588 establishes the Second Amendment Preservation Act and prohibits state and local entities from enforcing unconstitutional firearms restrictions. Senate Bill 663 abolishes gun free zones.

“Passing Senate Bill 588 will protect law-abiding Missourians from federal firearms laws that I believe are unconstitutional, like red flag, gun-seizure laws” Sen. Burlison said.

“I filed this bill to protect individual liberty. I also filed Senate Bill 663 to remove gun free zones from our state. Every Missourian has the right to bear arms, and I do not think that right should be taken away or infringed upon.”

Senator Burlison presented SBs 588 and 663 to the Missouri Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee on Thursday, Feb. 13. Following the hearing, the committee did not take any further action on either pieces of legislation.
