Graves: I'll continue to monitor coronavirus developments

(From Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves)

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been in the news a lot lately as it spread from China around the world and to America. We’ve dealt with disease outbreaks before, including SARS, Ebola, and H1N1, and we’re prepared to take this one head on as well.

The President declared a public health emergency and implemented travel restrictions early on, which undoubtedly slowed the spread of the disease. Currently, more test kits are being made available. A vaccine is also being developed.

To ensure that there is sufficient funding to fight this disease, Congress approved $8.3 billion dollars in emergency funding this week to help both federal and state governments as they take measures to help battle the outbreak. More than $4 billion of that money will go towards making diagnostic tests more broadly available, to supporting treatments to ease the symptoms of those infected with the virus and investing in vaccine development.

Additional money has also been allocated to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for response efforts across the country. Nearly $1 billion is specifically designated for state and local response efforts. My office has been in contact with many hospitals and health departments across North Missouri and I’m confident they are well-prepared to defend against the coronavirus.

There are many simple steps you can take to help stop the spread of coronavirus. The CDC has released the following list of precautions to take.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, & mouth.
Wash hands often with soap & water.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you're sick.

These precautions are very similar to the steps we take every year to help stop the spread of other viruses, like the common cold and the flu.

It is important to note that unlike past disease outbreaks like Ebola and SARs, many individuals who contract coronavirus don’t get it severely. In fact, many who contract the virus never end up going to the doctor for treatment.

However, like other diseases, the coronavirus is much more deadly for individuals with weaker immune systems, especially the elderly. That’s why it is so important to take these common-sense steps to prevent the spread of the virus. I’ll continue to monitor the latest Coronavirus developments and keep in close contact with our local health agencies to help prevent the spread of this illness.

So the president's recent statement that corona virus is another democrat hoax, are we to assume that statement is no longer operative? It can't hardly still be operative...unless you are part of the democrat hoax!

Brian you seem triggered by something.

Was it the part about the average Trump voter not thinking the corona virus COVID-19 is even real?

Was it the conclusion that denial was actually contributing to the problem?

Or are you all worked up by the sentence that cautioned against nose picking and booger eating and going to yooge Trump rallys?

In any case, the advice is sound. Unless you are a big time booger eater. If that's the case then you'd best think about changing your diet.

  4. Thanks for your concern. Since I graduated from kindergarten many years ago I have learned to deal with these types of insults without getting "triggered". The question was real though. Is this some kind of bot? It's on several stories on this blog verbatim. I find it very hard to believe that someone with the normal amount of chromosomes finds this so funny or clever that they take literal minutes out of their day to post and repost it. (It's you isn't it?)

    Trump supporters are evil!
    Trump supporters are racist!
Trump supporters are secret Russian agents!
Trump supporters eat boogers <---you are here.
Trump supporters are big poopie heads.

It's very cringy. The discourse in this country is in very bad shape. Social media was a mistake.
