This week, I introduced H.R. 6883, the Protecting Protein Production and Consumer Access Act.
My bill expands liability coverage for our meat processing plants to ensure the stability and long-term viability of our farmers and ranchers, to protect the hardworking folks in my district who rely on their jobs in these facilities for their paycheck, and to help lower the rising price of meat that we are currently experiencing at the grocery store.

If our producers and processors are going to successfully weather the storm of the coronavirus pandemic and ensure affordable products for consumers, then meat processing facilities must have the ability to fulfill the federal government’s reopening mandate without fear of frivolous litigation that will cripple their operations.
This bill ensures our meat processing facilities can move forward in a safe, effective, and sustainable manner.
There are many moving parts to this issue and I have been working with others in Congress and with President Trump’s team to lead on this issue, including my work to address both worker protections and ensure that meat processing facilities have all the tools necessary to bolster their working capacity in the face of diminished production and massive supply chain disruptions due to the COVID-10 pandemic.

This week, I also called on congressional leadership to include my bill expanding liability coverage for meat processing facilities in the next bipartisan legislation responding to the coronavirus.
Coverage for plants and farmers, but what about those workers in the plants who do the actual work. Your rush to keep them open under any circumstance is reckless and irresponsible. What testing has been done in our plants of workers to insure they are working in a safe environment. Have you and your party even approached the idea of testing workers for the virus and provided access to necessary PPE for their safety as well as the safety of the community in which they live. Most of this is blah, blah, blah protection for the corporation donating(buying your vote) to your campaign and paying for special trips.
