KSDK report: African Americans account for 38 percent of COVID-19 deaths in Missouri

Even though African Americans make up 12 percent of Missouri's residents, they account for 38 percent of the state's COVID-19 deaths, according to this report from KSDK in St. Louis, an area that has been particularly hard hit by the virus.

The report notes primary reasons for the disparity include the large number of African Americans holding jobs that do not allow them to work from home and the "close proximity of housing in predominantly black communities."

In those situations, Urban League President Michael McMillan says, social distancing is a privilege.
