Plans announced for Carthage High School Graduation

(From the Carthage R-9 School District)

The Carthage community is proud of its schools and always wants the best for its students. A quick drive around town makes this apparent to any visitor.

When a city holds their schools in high regard, they also hold school traditions dear. The culmination of our traditions comes to fruition at the end of the high school years - Graduation.

Carthage R9 students, especially 2020 Seniors, have lost much in the past weeks.

However, R9 administration, faculty, and staff are maintaining efforts to hold a full, traditional, on-site graduation ceremony for a very deserving Senior Class of 2020.

We are pleased to announce our plan for this ceremony. CHS Class of 2020 David Haffner Stadium July 30, 2020 7:30 pm

The date is late, but we believe it allows us more options and fewer restrictions than if we were to hold exercises in May or June.

Plans are pending local, state, federal restrictions on large gatherings, and, of course, weather. They are certainly subject to change.

If restrictions are lifted by July 30th, we will hold a normal graduation ceremony. This is our goal.

If restrictions are still in place, but allow us to have ‘x’ number of people in the stadium, we will distribute tickets to the graduates, ensuring we meet social distancing requirements.

If less than 500 are allowed to gather, we may only be able to allow graduates inside. If even heavier restrictions are in place, we will have graduates, a few at a time, in the stadium with their families for diploma pick-up and pictures.

If this occurs, we will try - through video - to recreate a traditional graduation ceremony as best as we can and release it to the public.

The ceremony will be streamed on YouTube for anyone who cannot attend but wishes to watch.

Weather will also be taken into consideration. As always, the alternate location for exercises will be the CHS Gymnasium.

Congratulations, Class of 2020. Let’s hope for a full ceremony. We’ll see you soon.

Sincerely,
Matt Huntley Principal Carthage High School
