Video- Complete Joplin City Council candidate forum

(From the City of Joplin)

Candidates in this year’s Joplin City Council election participated in a Candidate Forum program that aired live earlier this week on KGCS-TV. The program is being rebroadcast on KGCS-TV at 7 p.m. tonight, Sunday evening, and after the City Council meeting on Monday.

The municipal election is being held on Tuesday June 2 after the Missouri Secretary of State moved it from the original date of April 7 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Eleven candidates are on the ballot for the June 2 election.

Zone Two has three candidates seeking the seat – Harvey Hutchinson, Charles Copple and Jim Scott.

Zone Three is a race between two candidates – incumbent Phil Stinnett and Steve Urie.

The General Council has two four-year seats up for election with four candidates seeking these positions – Christina Williams, incumbent Keenan Cortez, Josh Bard, and Shawna Ackerson.

One General Council seat for a two-year term is on the ballot with two candidates vying for this seat – Josh Shackles and incumbent Anthony Monteleone.

Judy Stiles, KGCS General Manager and host of the Newsmakers interview program, hosted the show asking candidates about key issues facing the City of Joplin.
