GNC Store at Joplin's Northpark Mall not likely to be here long

The GNC (General Nutrition Center) store at Joplin's Northpark Mall was not one of the 248 stores the company announced it would be shutting down, but it appears to be living on borrowed time.

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday, the company posted a list of stores that will be closed, including its store at Battlefield Mall in Springfield.

While the Joplin location was not on the list, that seems likely to only be a stay of execution.

From USA Today:

In November 2018, GNC officials had announced that they would close up to 900 stores over the next three years in the U.S. and Canada as leases expire and in July 2019 said it planned to focus the closings on mall locations.
