COVID-19 death toll at Spring River Christian Village up to 12- 64 residents, 30 employees test positive

Spring River Christian Village, 201 Northpark Lane in Joplin, has confirmed the deaths of five more residents due to COVID-19, bringing the total to 12.

The Joplin Health Department says it has had two of those deaths confirmed by the Jasper County Coroner's office and has added them to the city's COVID-19 and that it is aware that Spring River Christian Village is reporting more deaths.

Sixty-four residents of the facility, as well as 30 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The City of Joplin's news release, posted moments ago, is printed below:

The Joplin Health Department is sad to report the death of two Joplin residents. Coronavirus was a significant condition contributing to these deaths. The individuals were both females, one being 95 years old and the other being 86 years old. Both were residents of Spring River Christian Village, a long-term care facility in Joplin. This announcement brings the total count to nine deaths.

The City Health Department is aware of additional deaths being reported by the facility, however the City reports deaths after they have been officially confirmed with the county coroner’s office and the medical examiner that COVID-19 has been determined to be a contributing factor. Until that confirmation is made, these deaths cannot be reported by our organization. Because of this process, there may be a lag between when the deaths occur and when they are reported to the public.

Please note that the City updates statistics by noon Monday through Friday on the Joplin’s COVID-19 dashboard found at www.joplinmo.org/coronavirus.

The management of the Spring River facility has been working closely with the Joplin Health Department, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Section for Long Term Care and recently had all their staff and residents tested for the virus. The situation continues to be monitored closely.
