Oklahoma attorney who won $3 million judgment will represent plaintiff against jailer accused of raping her and Barton County Sheriff who allegedly ignored her complaints

An Oklahoma attorney who recently won a $3,144,000 judgment against the Public Service Company of Oklahoma will represent a woman who is suing Barton County Sheriff Mitchell Shaw and former jailer Antonio Azua claiming she was sexually harassed and then raped when she was a prisoner in the Barton County Jail.

The woman's attorney of record, Bill Fleischaker of Joplin, filed a motion today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, saying that McAlester, Oklahoma lawyer Jeremy Beaver (top photo) of the law firm of Gotcher-Beaver would be handling the case and asking that Beaver be admitted to the court.

Fleischaker will continue to be involved in the case, accepting all court papers as required by law.

In the lawsuit, the woman claims Azua forcibly raped her, gave her a sexually transmitted disease and when she wrote to Sheriff Mitchell Shaw (photo at left) to tell him what happened to her, he did not bother to read the complaints.

The lawsuit alleges deplorable conditions for female prisoners, lax oversight and poor training of jailers by Shaw and claims the sheriff refused to provide documents and records to Fleischaker, even though all of the documents are open records under the Missouri Sunshine Law.

Azua's trial on a felony rape charge stemming from his alleged actions with the former prisoner, is scheduled to begin February 1, 2021 in Barton County Circuit Court.
