On same day Carthage rejects facemask ordinance, 54 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Jasper County

On the same day the Carthage City Council rejected a facemask ordinance by a 6-4 vote, the Jasper County Health Department reported 54 new cases - all confirmed within the last 24 hours.

The addition of the 54 raises the Jasper County coronavirus count to 636.

(The statistics do not include the City of Joplin.)

Though the department news release did not mention the location of the new cases, most of Jasper County's cases recently have been in Carthage and the surrounding area.

Of the 636 cases, 208 remain under isolation with the county statistics showing 428 have recovered. Those two numbers add up to 636.

The chart does not indicate which category health department officials are placing the person who died with COVID-19
