Joplin Fire Department receives $145,000 federal grant to replace portable radios

(From the Joplin Fire Department)

The Joplin Fire Department has received notification from the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA that we have been awarded a 2019 Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $145,000.

The grant will be used to replace all portable radios that are carried by our on duty staff members.

The current radios that the Joplin Fire Department are using have reached the end of their service life and can no longer be repaired.

The replacement of all our radios would not have been possible without this much needed grant. The city of Joplin will be responsible for a 10 percent match amounting to $13,182 while the grant portion will cover the remaining $131,818.
