In an editorial that is guaranteed to tick off a large segment of its readership, the Joplin Globe Editorial Board came down hard today in ripping the Joplin City Council for its 5-4 decision Monday night not to continue the city's mask ordinance.
And to add to the fun, the Globe also leveled harsh criticism at those who have so vociferously opposed the ordinance:
We’re disappointed in the City Council for rescinding the mask mandate, and we’re also frustrated that some members of our community — our friends and neighbors — are arguing so forcefully against masks.
Wearing a mask is a kindness, a way to protect others from your infection should you have COVID-19 but be asymptomatic.
It’s a way to protect the most vulnerable among us, the elderly and the immunocompromised, from getting the disease. It’s a bare-minimum decency that everyone should show to protect the health and safety of those in their community.
The Globe concluded the editorial with this admonition:
Masks work, and wearing them isn't a hardship. It's a shame that our city council and our community are so intent on believing otherwise and putting everyone at risk.
While I am certain this editorial will cause an uproar, it is going to be nothing compared to a few weeks from now when the newspaper endorses Joe Biden.
I don't get it why would they come up with this just before school starts it's like sending them into unknown territory without a hope & a prawyer
ReplyDeleteCarol Stark is spinning in her grave at what this paper has become. Yes, Carol was a rabid leftist. But, she understood that journalism is about reporting the facts and keeping the editorial page balanced with multiple opinions from ALL sides. The Globe has become just another leftist rag that needs to go away.
ReplyDeleteOh, does anyone want to look into Keenan Cortez's wife calling local screen-printing businesses and brow beating them for not carrying BLM shirts? What a peach we've put on the Council. Absurd.
Why aren't the Joplin City Council organizing a boat parade to Keep America Grate and support our president?
ReplyDelete“We have clear scientific evidence they work, and they are our best defense,” CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said. “I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against Covid than when I take a Covid vaccine.”
ReplyDeleteRedfield explained that a potential coronavirus vaccine may only have an immune response 70% of the time that protects a person against COVID-19.
"If I don’t get an immune response, the vaccine’s not going to protect me. This face mask will,” Redfield said while holding up his surgical face mask.
He urged Americans, particularly those between 18 and 25 years old, to take personal responsibility and embrace wearing face masks.
Uh oh. That wont' fly with Trump's lies. I guess Redfield, a Trump appointee, will be thrown under the bus shortly for issuing this fact based rant. And we all know Trump cultists can't handle the truth.
