City of Joplin passes 1,000 COVID-19 cases

 

With the addition of 17 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases today, the city of Joplin crossed the 1,000 mark, reaching 1,015.

One reason for the increased instances of COVID-19 is the recent opening of school, Assistant City Manager Dan Pekarek said during this morning's news conference.

For some reason, the city's COVID-19 dashboard showed 24 deaths Sunday, but that has reverted to 21, all of them residents of Spring River Christian Village.

Active cases decreased from 197 to 190, according to statistics posted this morning on the dashboard, while the number of city residents who are hospitalized increased from nine to 10.

The number of people being treated for the coronavirus at Mercy and Freeman hospitals remained at 45.
