Seneca cancels Friday football game after McDonald County won't allow quarantined players to participate

(From the McDonald County R-1 School District)

On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, Seneca schools reached out to McDonald County requesting to bring and play football players under quarantine for close COVID contact.

We consulted with MSHSAA which informed us they ”do not support, condone nor agree” with the action of permitting players under quarantine to participate in athletic events.

We also contacted our local health department and following their advice, Seneca school officials were informed their players must adhere to the same guidelines required of our Mustang athletes which means players under quarantine are not eligible to play.

McDonald County at no time canceled the game.

Seneca called McDonald County on Thursday morning and related they had determined playing without the quarantined players jeopardized the safety of their team. As a result, they decided not to play the Friday night football game with McDonald County High School.
