The Newton County Health Department reported the county's 25th COVID-19 death Thursday
The victim was a man in his 70s who had been hospitalized.
Statistics posted on the department's Facebook page Friday indicated 29 new cases had been confirmed, putting the county's total at 1,948.
The number of people who are hospitalized increased from 15 to 17, while the number in isolation dropped from 290 to 286.
The statistics do not include the portion of Newton County that is located in the Joplin city limits.
