Apparently Abbie Covington did not feel it punishment enough for the six Joplin City Council members who voted for the mask mandate Thursday to leave council chambers with a heavy burden of guilt and sick to their stomachs.
That was part of her lengthy prayer for the council she gave in her five-minute address during the special council meeting.
KZRG is reporting that Covington is spearheading a recall effort against Mayor Ryan Stanley and council members Keenan Cortez, Diane Reid Adams, Chuck Copple, Anthony Monteleone and Christina Williams.
Spokeswoman Abbie Covington says the group feels the members violated the Federal and State Constitutions by not protecting the rights of citizens and, as a result, deserve to be removed from office.
Covington says if the signatures are properly collected, a recall election could take place sometime in April.
Covington said what the council was planning violated the U. S. and Missouri constitutions, though neither she nor anyone else has yet explained how it does so.
During her presentation, Covington told the council, "We are not at war with you, we are at war with the devil."
During her prayer, she made it clear that she was not at war with council members Gary Shaw, Phil Stinnett and Doug Lawson, who later voted against the ordinance and that she thought the other six were in league with the devil.
In her prayer, Covington beseeched the Holy Father to "cast the devil" out of City Hall, eventually it was Mayor Ryan Stanley who cast Covington out of council chambers when she angrily shouted at the council following the vote.

Just another illiterate hack trying to get the minority to control the majority. The majority of people want the mandate. Why in your sick, twisted mind would you "pray" for someone to get sick, while showing you care nothing about anyone else's life? If you could save a life by wearing a mask would you? Hiding your vitriolic rant behind religion is bad enough. Since when is a mask siding with the devil? Not wearing a mask shows your allegiance to the devil since you care nothing about possibly taking another human's life. Gather your petitions. We WILL vote it down.

What’s the problem, do they lack the humility to set aside their defensiveness, for the greater good of society when there is nothing arbitrary, unreasonable, or capricious about it? Glad to hear that six members of the city council care about Joplin lives.
How is a mask mandate different than any of the laws society lives by? Using the logic many presented, it should be a personal choice if one wears clothes. God created us naked. Pot was created by God. Does this mean we all should be allowed to drive stoned to Walmart without any clothes on? Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it?
Why go to the doctor? We should let our body heal itself. Why take medicine? It’s made by the evil big pharmaceutical companies. The same ones that make vaccines. How can we trust the pills but not the vaccines? How can we trust the doctor when he recommends pills but not when he recommends vaccinations? In fact, shouldn’t we just trust God to heal us?

I don't understand why people get so up in arms about the masks! Frankly, we should be wearing them because it's the sensible thing to do and mandates shouldn't even be necessary! We wear protective gear for all sorts of things - why on earth would a PANDEMIC be different? I wouldn't tend bees without gear, or remove lead paint without a mask... How is it different to protect myself and others from a highly contagious virus? And why would any Christian pray harm on people who are simply trying to do what's best for people they're responsible to? Our city should not have to spend good money to defend themselves, in court, from idiotic lawsuits brought about by morons. That's not what I want my tax money used for!
I watched her insane prayer, I was proud our city council did not allow those who speak loudest to win this time. I do not attend the meetings because most attendees are not masked.
Maybe we should start a petition to counter her accusations and voice support for the counsel’s actions!
