Joplin R-8 Board to take up resolution to extend COVID-19 sick leave for employees


With the federal Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act having expired at the end of December, the Joplin R-8 Board of Education will take up a resolution extending sick leave for employees who contract COVID-19  or are quarantined.

The resolution will be discussed at a 4:20 p.m. board meeting Wednesday. A closed session to discuss personnel issues will begin at 4 p.m. in the Memorial Administration Building.

The resolution provides up to 10 days of COVID sick leave to employees for the following reasons:

-They are subject to a federal, state or local quarantine or isolation order

-They have been told by a health care provider to self-quarantine because they have or may have COVID-19.








-They are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and are waiting for confirmation from a health care provider.

-They are caring for a spouse, child or parent who is subject to a quarantine or isolation order and have been advised to self quarantine by a health care provider.

Full-time employees will be paid at their regular rate of pay, not to exceed $510 per day or $5,100 total.

Part-time employees will be paid based on the number of days they have worked.

Substitutes will not be eligible.
