Springfield-Greene County Health Department: Vaccine not yet available for high-risk groups

(From the Springfield-Greene County Health Department)

As our community awaits vaccine from the state for those considered high risk, Springfield-area healthcare partners are encouraging people to sign up for updates and start planning ahead.

The governor’s office has approved vaccinations for certain high-risk individuals beginning Monday.

However, vaccine doses from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department are not yet available for these individuals. Vaccine doses are extremely limited across the region and the health department is working actively with healthcare partners to obtain supply.

The state anticipates additional vaccine from the federal government next week. However, we do not have more specific details on when that vaccine will become available in Greene County.

The Phase 1B-Tier 2 group includes:

Anyone 65 and older
Any adults with:
Cancer
Chronic kidney disease
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Heart conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies
Weakened immune system due to organ transplant
Severe obesity (BMI>40)
Pregnancy
Sickle cell disease
Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome

We are awaiting additional guidance on next steps for vaccine, but while we do not have vaccine available for these groups at this time, individuals are encouraged to sign up for updates as they come available. Individuals interested in staying up-to-date have several options:
